Visual identity of the XXIII General Chapter

The logo for the XXIII General Chapter of the Institute of the Marist Brothers was designed by Diego Teider, who is Marketing Advisor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná.
Below we reproduce the author’s description of the visual identity created for the meeting to be held in the Philippines from September 8 to October 8, 2025.
The logo of the 23rd General Chapter of the Marist Institute embodies the essence, values, and history of the Marist charism.
Drawing inspiration from the Hermitage Window, it delves into rich symbolism that transcends a mere depiction of a window. This window, located in Saint Marcellin Champagnat’s bedroom, serves as a potent metaphor. It signifies more than just a physical opening in a wall; it acts as a gateway to the outside world, connecting the Marist mission with the youth of the world and aligning Marcellin’s aspirations with their realization. Similarly, our Marist identity serves as a window into the values, mission, and vision of his legacy.
Like Champagnat, who gazed through his bedroom window at the River Gier flowing toward the horizon, the logo encourages brothers and laypeople to “look beyond” the surface, to discover new horizons and embrace fresh perspectives. It serves as a window for contemplation, reflection, and exploration.
Champagnat’s house, Notre-Dame de l’Hermitage, with its many windows, mirrors the richness and diversity of the Institute’s interculturality. Just as each window in his house presents a unique view of the world, our Marist identity embodies the multitude of experiences and perspectives that lie ahead for us in the future.
The open window symbolizes not only hospitality and invitation but also embodies the essence of meaningful presence and simplicity, guiding interactions and relationships. Marists are “at home,” prepared to welcome, listen, dialogue, and engage with all who approach this window, embracing everyone with a spirit of family.
The logo, therefore, acts as a window to the “soul of the encounter”, offering a tangible representation of Marist values, mission, and commitment to the young people of today’s world.
