We have a new school!

Dear all, it is with a heart full of gratitude to God that I write to you, in order to share with you about the development of our new school at Nyakato. The outgoing Provincial Council, during its term of office, approved various projects within our Province and one of them was a dream (project) to have a Secondary school in Mwanza-Nyakato.

Today, this dream is no longer a dream per sé but a dream that has come true; we have a new school! It is called “The Marist Boys’ Secondary School;” its motto is ‘memento ascendere semper’ (remember always to aim higher). Brother Kiko Baeza is the Headmaster and he is assisted by the Nyakato community and five other staff members from Tanzania. This school is located within the premises of the Postulancy. It opened its doors for the first time on Monday, 21st January 2013 at 8.00am and it currently consists of 84 students, 60 boarders and 24 day scholars. The school also has 2 starting classes; Pre-Form one which has 37 students and Form one 47 students.

It was an interesting moment to receive these boys and their parents for the first time! Parents were happy to see their kids joining our school and being its pioneers and children were happy too to be called Marist Boys and be given such a warm and brotherly welcome.

On the other hand, it is important to let you know that, though the school is within our Postulancy premises, the formation activities are also following their normal pace; the more so as this school opens up a new apostolic field (patronage) for our candidates.

All in all, we thank our Province for all the support that it is offering to this project, all donors for their generosity to this project and you all our “marvelous companions” for your prayers and best wishes.

May Saint Marcellin awaken our hearts, may he continue to teach us to dream brave dreams and bring them into reality!
