XIX Ordinary General Assembly of UMBRASIL

The Marist Union of Brazil (UMBRASIL) celebrated in Brasilia, from February 14 to 15, its XIX Ordinary General Assembly, under the motto “Caring for and generating Marist life”. Twenty-one representatives from the 3 Marist Provinces of Brazil participated in the meeting. During the event, Br. Deivis Fischer, from the Brasil Sul-Amazônia Province, took office as the new president of the Superior Council of UMBRASIL, replacing Br. Benê Oliveira, from the Brasil Centro-Sul Province.

The executive secretary of UMBRASIL and executive secretary of the America Sur Region, Leonardo Soares, highlighted the importance of the deliberations of the assembly for the future of the Marist mission: “UMBRASIL is happy to give visibility, feasibility, and implementation to our dream of building networks for Marist Brazil, the América Sur Region, and the Institute.”

UMBRASIL, from that moment on, has a new structure. The different areas that previously existed are now part of 3 new fronts: Identity, Mission, and Vocation; Religious Organization and Cooperation and Good Practices. The change seeks to emphasize Consecrated and Lay Life, Management and Heritage Strategy, Legal and Corporate Protection, and the construction of more powerful international networks.

During the Assembly, Br. Natalino Souza and June Cruz presented to the brothers the state of development of: the Integrated Network of Basic Education of the Marists of Brazil. The balance sheet for 2022 and the budget for 2023 were also approved.

Leonardo Soares took advantage of the moment of the Assembly to talk about the main points that will be discussed in the Regional Assembly of America Sur, which will take place in Bolivia, from March 18 to 24. The Region is also in the phase of updating the Strategic Planning, and has restructured 3 macro areas, according to the Strategic Plan of the General Government: Marist Life, Institutional Services and Marist Mission.

Among the panelists were: Fr. Wilson Groh, who spoke on “Servant Prophetic Leadership: a vocation that screams,” and Luiz Roberto Liza Curi, Counselor and President of the National Council of Education, who spoke on “Scenarios and situations of Brazilian Education: a new perspective.”

The Assembly was also the scene of the launching of volumes II and III of the collection on the life of Br. Basilio “A Man of God”. See here the launching.
