Brother Ben Consigli, General Councilor, on behalf of all the members, has written the XV message of the Marist International Mission Commission, entitled “planning the mission: intelligence and soul“. The message underlines the importance of planning in Marist mission, the need to establish goals and define the actions necessary to achieve them. From the Marist point of view, these goals goals are derived from the vision and mission of Saint Marcellin Champagnat in “making Jesus Christ known and loved, through the Christian education of youth, especially those who are least favored”.

Plannig is essential because helps to critically assess the goals, to facilitate decision making and to set a time frame by predicting when we can achieve our goals. It also defines how to assess what we are doing and, if necessary, to reset a course of action.

The message is divided into three sections: what we have been doing well: the benefits of planning; what further steps can we take; to guarantee a future.

The International Marist Mission Commission concludes by recalling the admonition of the XXII General Chapter: “plans and strategies are not sufficient. We are called to conversion, both personal and collective. As Marists, we must be true disciples, and our communities must be beacons of light and the Marian face of the Church in the midst of the world’”.
