XVII Provincial Chapter of the Marists of America Central
With the motto “Sowing the Future”, the Province of Central America held its XVII Provincial Chapter, from June 26 to 30, in Guatemala. During the chapter celebration, Brother Juan Carlos Bolaños took up the role as provincial animator, and the brother members of the Provincial Council were elected for the next three years 2024-2027.
Present at the chapter were Br. Ernesto Sánchez, Superior general, and Brother Ken McDonald, general councilor of liaison with the Arco Norte Region, who shared reflections, and highlighted the need for unity and commitment to continue advancing in the mission Marist and face challenges with a spirit of service and faith. In his intervention, Brother Ernesto Sánchez thanked Brother Hipólito Pérez for his dedicated work as provincial animator, and gave a warm welcome to Brother Juan Carlos Bolaños, who assumed command as the new Provincial of Central America.
In his final intervention, Brother Hipólito, Provincial since 2017, thanked all the brothers and lay people who collaborated with him during his mission. While Brother Juan Carlos Bolaños, in his first speech as provincial animator, thanked everyone and shared his vision for the future, focused on strengthening Marist passion and promoting a united and supportive community.
To assist Brother Juan Carlos Bolaños in his mission as Provincial of Central America, the capitulars elected brothers Daniel MartĂn, Gerardo MunguĂa, NicĂ©foro Garrán, Carlos Monroy, Manuel Matilla, Carlos VĂ©lez as provincial councilors.
During the days of the Provincial Chapter, the brothers and lay people of the province participated, in groups, in work sessions, dialogues, exchange of ideas and development of strategies to strengthen the Marist mission and vision in the province.

At the end of the XVII Provincial Chapter, brothers and lay people came together as one family to celebrate the closing Eucharist. United in prayer, they gave thanks for the work done during the week, and asked that God, the Good Mother and Saint Marcellin Champagnat guide the new provincial council.
