Year of Religious Life Celebrated
On February 2, feast of the Presentation of the Lord, and International Day of Religious Life, the religious from the diocese of Cienfuegos gathered at the Marist community house. Along the day, which included prayer and reflection, each of the 11 religious communities participating shared about the way in which they are incarnating their charism in Cuba.
The meeting, which ended with the Eucharist celebrated by Bishop Domingo Oropesa, aimed at welcoming and studying the invitation Pope Francis made to the religious worldwide in the Year of Consecrated Life the Church is celebrating: “Look to the past with gratitude, live the present with passion, and embrace the future with hope”.
Marist presence in Cuba
The Marist Brothers first arrived in Cuba in 1903. After leaving in 1961, they returned in 2001, and now there are two Marists communities in the island, one in Habana, with 3 brothers, and another in Cienfuegos, with 3 brothers and an aspirant. Cuba is part of to the Province of Central America.
