Benedict McGranahan

Bro. Benedict was born in Raphoe, Co Donegal on 10th October 1931 into a family of three boys and one girl. His parents were Patrick McGranaghan and Mary Josephine Devine. He entered the Juniorate in Our Lady’s Hermitage in Athlone in 1945, He entered the Novitiate in 1948 and made First Profession in 1950 and Final Profession in 1955.

He graduated from De La Salle Teacher Training College as a Primary Teacher in 1955. He subsequently served in Sligo (1955 to 1959). Castlerea (1959 to1969), Strokestown (1969 to 1974), Athlone (1974 to 1977) as teacher and bursar in the Hermitage. And from 1977 until he died he served in Ballina as teacher, Superior of the community and bursar for a period of 39 years.

He was awarded a diploma in Religious Studies in 1989 and a diploma in Social Science in 1975.

He died on September 25th, 2015.
