Deodato Magomero

Deodato Magomero

Brother Norbert Mwila, Provincial Superior, and the Brothers of the Province of Southern Africa, regret to announce the death of Brother Deodato Peter Magomero in Lilongwe, Malawi, on Monday 26 October 2020. He was 56 years old,

Deodato was born in Dowa, Malawi on 24 May 1964. He did his postulancy at Champagnat House, Mtendere from June 1984 to February 1985. His novitiate was carried out at Mulungushi, Kabwe (St Paul’s) and completed with his first profession on the 1 November 1986.

He immediately went to Nairobi where he was one of the pioneer group of students at MIC. Once back in Malawi, he was appointed to assist at the Postulancy in Mtendere for over three years.

Brother Deodato made his perpetual profession on 30 October 1993

From 1992 to 1996 he served as housemaster, school bursar and teacher at Zomba Catholic Boys School.

He then returned to Nairobi where he studied for a Bachelor’s degree in Geography at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. Thereafter he had spells at Mtendere Secondary, Zomba Catholic, and Likuni Boys Secondary School, variously as teacher, headmaster, and community superior. His last posting was in the community at Mtendere Secondary where he had no major responsibility other than teaching,

During the first three months of this year, Br Deodato followed a spiritual renewal course at the Pastoral Centre in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The arrival of COVID forced him to miss the last week of the program and return to Malawi.

About two months ago, his health was a source of concern, and he was transferred to our house in Lilongwe. On two occasions he was admitted to the nearby ABC Clinic for treatment over a few days. On Saturday 22 October, the clinic referred him to the Kamuzu Central Hospital in the city. It was there that he passed away from kidney failure at about 21h00 on 26 October.

The funeral service and burial in the Brothers’ cemetery in Mtendere took place on the following Wednesday

May our Brother Deodato rest in peace.
