Joseph Murakho

Born in Malawi, Losa Village, Chiradzulu District, South Region) – 3 June 1958

Passed away in Lilongwe, Malawi– 28 Jan 2021 at the age of 62.

As a young man, Joseph followed a 3-year teacher-training programme at the Montfort TTC (1982 – 1984), after which he was accepted as a Marist postulant in Mtendere (July 1984-Feb 1985).

He followed the novitiate program in St Paul’s Kabwe, Zambia from 1985, making his first profession on 1 November 1986.

He then spent a year at MIC, Nairobi, followed by two years on the staff of the postulancy, and two years at Chassa Secondary School, Zambia.

In 1991, he had a six-month spell at MIC, during which time he followed a 30-day retreat. After spells at Zomba Catholic and St Charles, Balaka (during which he made his perpetual profession, he returned to MIC for three years and completed the B.A.(Ed.) degree from the Urbaniana University. He was subsequently posted to all the houses in Malawi.

He was a gentle and kind person, as are many persons with a fuller figure. In recent years, he had been treated for high blood pressure, diabetes, including a stroke in 2016. His latest assignment at Likuni came to an end when tests for Covid-19 on Sunday 24 January proved to be positive. He was promptly hospitalised at the Bwaila Hospital in Lilongwe but his condition did not improve. He finally succumbed early in the morning of 28 January.

May he rest in peace. Amen.
