Lazarus Onusoro

Late Br. Lazarus .O Onusoroh was born on 12th July, 1945 into the family of late Mr. Silas Onusoroh and late Mrs. Grace Onusoroh of Agidi, Ihube-Okigwe L.G.A of Imo State, Nigeria. He did his primary education at St. Christopher’s Ihube in 1958. He also studied at Government Technical College from 1978 to 1979. Later he went to I.T.C Awka from 1964 to 1966, and Marist Brothers Juniorate, Uturu from 1983 to 1987.

Br. Lazarus joined the Marist Brothers’ Postulancy on 2nd February, 1973, and Novitiate on 1st June, 1973 all at Uturu, Abia State, Nigeria. He made his First Religious Profession 8th December, 1974 at Benin Edo State and Final Profession on 2nd February, 1980 at Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri Imo State, Nigeria. He celebrated his Silver Jubilee in 1999.

Br. Laz, as he was fondly called, started his apostolic activities at Marist Formation Centre Orlu, Imo State in 1975. After a year, Br. Laz  moved to Uwani-Enugu, where he served from 1976 to 1978. Later in 1978, he was transferred to Champagnat House, Enugu. After a few months, Br. Laz relocated to Nike Rehabilitation Centre, Emene-Enugu. There, he served from 1978 to 1983. While at Emene, he served as Chaplain of St. Jude’s Society.

In 1993 Br. Lazarus was transferred to Mt. St. Francis Community, Uturu where he served as Community Superior and Director of Prosthesis Department in Hopeville Rehabilitation Centre, Uturu. He spent most of his active years in this Prosthesis Department. He later fell sick for a very long time. He was transferred to St. Joseph’s Community, Uturu where he stayed until his death on Monday 29th February, 2016. May the soul of Br. Lazarus Rest in Perfect Peace!
