Luke Smyth

Br. Luke Smyth - Rip Febbruary 2021Brother Luke was born in the small Victorian town of Dookie in 1923. He went to St Gregory’s College as a boarding student in 1938, and after a year, he left the College to pursue a vocation as a Marist Brother. Brother Luke returned to St Gregory’s in 1944, and apart from two one year stints at other Marist schools, Brother Luke has served the community at St Gregory’s with great distinction and loyalty. This represents well over 70 years of his life devoted to the community at St Gregory’s.

During his time at St Gregory’s, Brother Luke has filled many roles including Teacher, Dormitory Master, Sport Coach, Brothers’ Community Leader and Farm Manager.

Brother Luke truly epitomises Saint Marcellin Champagnat – a man not afraid of hard work; a man of immense faith and devotion; a man who loved being around others, always supportive and caring; a man; a man of strong mind and gentle heart.
