Tobias Okwara

Late Br. Tobias Okwara was born on 30th September, 1939 into the family of late Mr. Okwara and late Mrs. Dorcas Okwara of Nkahu Dikenafai- Ideato South L.G.A, Imo State, Nigeria.

Late Br. Tobias joined the Marist Brothers’ Postulancy on 9th January, 1960 and Novitiate on 9th January, 1961 both at Uturu, Abia State, Nigeria. He made his First Religious Profession on 9th January, 1962 and Final Profession on 9th January, 1967, at Uturu. Br. Tobie, as he was fondly called, made his Vow of Stability on 14th August, 1994.

Br. Tobias studied in Osny College of Printing in France. Also, he studied in Glasgow College of Building and Printing in Scotland. He obtained a Diploma in Graphic Production and Lithography.

He worked at Assumpta Press in Owerri for many years as a Photo Engraver, Photographer, and finally as General Manager of the Press. Br. Tobie worked briefly at the Claverianum Press in Ibadan. While in Champagnat House, Enugu, Tobie served as the Province Archivist and Librarian. His good sense of orderliness, neatness, and good organisational skills were very visible throughout his service years as Archivist/Librarian. He was a very happy, lively, and jovial Brother.

Br. Tobie had been sick for many years. Notably, for the past six months, he had been in a kind of comma. We are grateful for the years of his dedicated and selfless services in the Province of Nigeria in different capacities too numerous to mention. May the soul of Br. Tobie Rest in Perfect Peace!
