Fourvière Day 2013

The 197th annual celebration of Fourvière Day was held in Sydney on Sunday 21 July 2013, at the Villa Maria Parish Hall, Hunters Hill. This year it was the turn of the Marist Brothers to host and conduct the function. Over 90 persons representing the Marist Fathers, Marist Sisters, Marist Brothers and Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary and from the networks of Lay Marists and Marist associates, were in attendance.

The focus of the function was a paraliturgy with appropriate readings and prayers, and use of the ‘ex voto’ large silver heart into which the names of those present were placed and the Heart carried in procession to the altar; the presentation and recitation of the Fourvière Pledge using the structure of the first commitment in 1816; and then Sunday Mass, followed by Afternoon Tea.

The Mass was celebrated by Fr Ron Nissan sm assisted by the newly ordained Deacon Willy Milteras sm from Vanuatu.
The weather was pleasantly sunny and mild and the occasion a happy opportunity to celebrate our Marist origins and recommit ourselves to the vision of our Marist founders.
