Mission Ad Gentes – Brother Walter Eras Lopez

class=imgshadowLast Saturday, 28 September, Brother Walter Eras Lopez arrived in Australia after a long flight that started two days before in Quito, Ecuador. His mission? To learn English over six months and then move into Asia as part of Ad Gentes. He was warmly welcomed by the Daceyville community.

Within three days we had him signed up for the most promising course available, TAFE at Ultimo. We’ve had some practice runs and he’s all set to go on October 8th. It will be an early start as it’s an 8.30 commencement. His induction has been gentle with a little trip to Manly to experience the beach culture!

He’s a remarkable Brother, with an impressive story. The eldest of 8 children- three girls, five boys he led the way through high school and university. Graduating in Electrical Engineering he worked in his profession for five years before the call to the Marist Brothers. After two years novitiate in Spain he returned to Quito for two years scholasticate before teaching fiver years at high school For the last 14 years he has worked with indigenous youth, becoming the director last year.

His energy and commitment are very impressive. He will certainly receive plenty of support from the Daceyville community.
