Welcome to Baucau, Brother Lecio Heckler!

It was with great joy, and due ceremony, the Marist Community in Baucau, Timor-Leste, welcomed Brother Lecio Heckler on Tuesday evening, 10th September. On arriving at the formation house, the aspirants and postulants bestowed on him the traditional tais (woven cloth) as a sign of welcome, and the importance his presence means for our Marist life and mission here in Timor-Leste. Everyone quickly warmed to Lecio’s enthusiasm, sense of fun and warm personality. We are very grateful Lecio has generously and courageously given himself to assist in the formation of young East Timorese candidates for the next three years. Our deep appreciation also goes to the Province of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, who agreed to release Lecio, thus further supporting the internationality of our Institute.

Mr Peter White, co-Principal at Notre Dame College, Shepparton also arrived on Tuesday. Peter has volunteered for the next two months to assist in the professional development of teaching staff at ICFP Baucau who are doing by distance education the Masters of Education program through Australian Catholic University. Peter’s coming comes at a crucial time as we bid a sad farewell to Brother John Horgan after completing six years in Baucau.
