The right to quality in the Education of Children
The II Marist Congress for Childhood was held at PUCPR (Curitiba) on 29 October. The Congress had as theme: Childhood: right to quality in the education of children. It drew a good participation, with some 120 teachers, researchers and other people involved in early child education. It opened with a cultural presentation by the teachers of the « Centro Educacional Marista Curitiba » and continued with a conference by the pedagogue Maria Carmem Barbosa, Master in Education from UFRS and Doctor from UNICAMP, author of books and articles in the domain of Children’s Education.
Theme workshops
In the afternoon, seven theme workshops were organized to discuss matters related to the education of children; school courses, languages, mediation, health promotion, materials and furniture, work conditions and family participation.
The Marist Congress for Childhood is an initiative of the Marist Solidarity Network and it forms part of the Formation Itineraries. The accent being placed on the continuing formation of professionals, the programmes in 2011 gave priority to the knowledge and practice areas of socialisation, in seeking to improve the formation of the educators and other people concerned who act in favour of children’s rights, by the construction of new possibilities for them.
