Br Miguel Angel Espinosa Barrera

The General Council has appointed Br Miguel Angel Espinosa Barrera, of the Province of « México Central », assistant director of the Secretariat of Mission. The Secretariat, a strategic instrument of the General Government for the animation, reinforcement and articulation of the Marist mission at all levels of the Institute, has the responsibility of contributing, creatively, boldly and prophetically, to « making Jesus Christ known and loved by children and young people ». It has been inspired by the calls of the General Chapter to work for the Marist mission in a new world, by educating and evangelizing the children and youth of our time. Welcome, Br Miguel Angel ! we are counting heavily on your presence and service.

 

Biography of Br. Miguel Ángel Espinosa Barrera (MAEB)

Miguel Angel was born on 6 August 1973 in Querétaro, Mexico. His parents, Luis Felipe and Yolande, and his siblings, Luis Felipe and Martha Yolanda, were the ones who sowed the seed of family spirit and fraternity which have grown in him over the years.

One can say he has been « Marist » since the age of 6, as a pupil of the « Instituto Querétaro ». At 12 he was already in the Marcha group, then he became part of the naissant « Ciudad Nueva Marista ». At 16 he began his formation in the novitiate, where he had the grace of having the venerated Brother Basilio Rueda as master. In 1995 he made his first vows and in 2001 consecrated himself to the Lord in perpetuity with his 4 companions.

A passionate, joyful and open man, ready to learn and to buuild in community. Irapuato, Guajanato, was his first apostolic community, then he worked in Sahuayo, Mich. He did his apprenticeship in these educational communities both as teacher and brother among children, adolescents and young people.

In 2003 he began work within the Marist Youth Ministry of the Province. From 2006 to 2010 he was a member of the Youth Ministry Sub-commission of America, and from 2005 to 2012 he was part of the  Provincial Council.

From2010 to July 2013, Miguel Angel was working in the co-ordination of the Province’s Educational Ministry, as part of a large team, where he learned to « look further and listen more attentively », in order to respond more creatively to the needs of the Province.

And now he is enthusiastically taking on the task of deputy director of the Institute’s Commission of Mission.
