Letters of Marcellin – 276

Marcellin Champagnat

1839-10-07

Here again is the same answer the Founder was obliged to give to the many requests he received. This one, like the others, will be added to the waiting list, unless the writer could find some place else where he can be served more quickly, should he find the delay too long. Fr. Avit may have chosen the latter alternative, since this parish will not be mentioned again.

Father,

We are very grateful for the confidence with which you honor us by asking for brothers for your attractive parish, but at present it is impossible for us to further your zeal for the religious instruction of your beloved children. A great number of requests prior to yours must still be filled. However, we will do all we can to give you brothers as soon as possible.

We hope that Providence will adjust the number of subjects to the needs. I cannot set a precise date when you can have brothers. But if you wish, your request will be entered in its proper order, and in the competition, we will take into account the ongoing efforts of your parishioners to consolidate and prepare this good work.

Accept the assurance of the respectful devotedness with which I have the honor to be….
