The Province of Compostela celebrates its 20th Anniversary

On January 2, 105 members of the Marist Province of Compostela gathered at Colegio San José in León: Brothers, affiliates, members of the administrative teams of San José and Champagnat Schools and other friends.

It was an opportunity to celebrate the 207th anniversary of the foundation of the Institute, the 20th anniversary of the Province and 105 years of Marist presence in Leon. Also honored were Brothers Celestino Oveja, Adolfo Pérez, Nicolás García and Jack González on their Diamond Jubilee, as well as Brothers Carmelo Cuesta and Jesús A. Rodríguez on their Golden Jubilee as Marist Brothers.

After an introductory prayer, the Provincial, Brother Máximo Blanco, read a message from the Superior General, Brother Ernesto Sánchez. The Provincial gave meaning and motivation to the act, alluding to the testimony of fidelity of the honorees, who told some anecdotes of their lives. Brother Adolfo sent his testimony from Honduras. Brother Maximo presented them with gifts of the event.

Then some brothers shared their activities and there was a special space dedicated to the transition of the apostolic work in Honduras to the Province of Central America. This was followed by a solemn Eucharist of thanksgiving presided over by the Bishop of Leon, Luis Angel de las Heras, and concelebrated by two Marist Fathers.

The meeting ended with a fraternal meal, followed by an after-dinner conversation in which there was no lack of Christmas carols to crown the fraternal gathering.
