The World Youth Day (WYD) is 20 years old

The WYDs were invented by John Paul II and represent a time of gathering and of prayer for the youth of the entire world with the youth of the entire world. The event is held every two or three years on four continents in rotation and is a result of an intense journey of preparation. Each WYD is characterised by a theme which the Holy Father takes from the Gospels and by a message which, starting from the chosen theme, offer the young people a pathway of prayer and reflection for an entire year of catechesis. We are offering you the logo and theme of each WYD, from the first celebrated in Rome in 1985 until the one that is to take place shortly in Cologne in August 2005.
