World AIDS Day 2023: Marcellin Trust – Operation Rainbow and Bishop Heber College Join Hands for Awareness

On World AIDS Day 2023, Marcellin Trust – Operation Rainbow, India, in collaboration with Bishop Heber College, organized a special event to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. The event was held on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Rainbow Project, St. Marcellin Community Hall, Uyyakondan Thirumalai, Trichy.

The event began with a short opening prayer and the lighting of the lamp, followed by an oath-taking ceremony with candlelight to commemorate World AIDS Day. The theme for this year’s World AIDS Day was ‘Let Communities Lead’.

Students from the Department of Social Work and PG Department of Food and Nutrition of Bishop Heber College staged a drama to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and how to prevent and stop the spread of AIDS. The drama was a powerful tool to educate and inform the audience about the disease.

The chief guest of the event was Mrs. Roselin, Head of the Department of Food and Nutrition. She delivered a talk on the topic ‘Support Your Immune Function with Good Nutrition’, emphasizing the importance of healthy food for a healthy life and ways to improve our immunity. The students also dramatized the benefits of various food items and nutrients through a skit, making the information more accessible and engaging.

Other special guests at the event included Prof. Ms. V.Sheeba, Dr. Mr. Samson, and Dr. Mrs. Jansi William from Bishop Heber College, along with Brs. Jeyaraj, Suresh Durai and Saul Placious. The Rainbow staff, Br. Rajakumar, the Director, Mr. David, the Program Co-ordinator and Mrs. Deepa, field worker were the organising team along with students of Bishop Heber College, Trichy.

At the end of the event, all participants were served lunch and given a nutrition bag. About 45 families participated in the event, making it a grand success.

Every year, World AIDS Day is observed worldwide, and Operation Rainbow, which provides care and support for children and their families affected by HIV/AIDS, organizes this event. The aim is to raise awareness and build resilience among the affected community to face up to the challenges and lead a life with hope, a positive mind-set, and happiness.
