3rd Provincial Chapter
The 8th of December saw the opening of the 3rd Provincial Chapter, an assembly of a deliberative nature which will establish the general objectives for the activities of the Marist Network for the next three years (2010-2012). This organization represents the operation of the Institute of the Marist Brothers of Rio Grande do Sul. Present in some 78 countries, the Marist Brothers in our Province direct three Management Councils, on which depend one University (PUCRS), 21 schools and 28 Social Centres. In all, there are more than 50, 000 students and about 40, 000 persons given free assistance in the Social Centres.
With around 9, 000 employees, the principal person responsible for the Network is the religious occupying the position of Provincial and president of the three Controlling Committees (USBEE, SOME and UBEA). Brother Inácio Etges will take possession during this assembly. He will carry out his duties during the next three years. The Brothers who compose the Provincial Council ?the highest decision-making body ? will also be elected during this assembly.
The Provincial Chapter counts on the participation of about 60 persons: Brothers, lay people, and a representative of the General Council from Rome, the Scottish Brother Joseph McKee, Vicar General.
