The fifth Provincial Chapter of the Mediterránea province took place in Guardamar, Spain, from Jan. 2 – 5, under the theme “Contigo200+”.

Superior General Brother Emili Turú, Brother Ernesto Sánchez, one of the General Council links with the Province, 36 Provincial Brothers and West Africa District Superior Brother Francis Lukong participated.

Brother Juan Carlos Fuertes took over as new Provincial, replacing Br. Antonio Giménez de Bagües.

Brothers Francisco Javier Gragera Fernández-Salguero, Juan Miguel Anaya, Samuel Gómez Ñíguez, Damiano Forlani, Aureliano García Manzanal and Marciano Guzmán Moriana form the new Provincial Council.

Br. Emili, who gave way to the new provincial taking up possession, spoke about the vocational situation experienced by the Institute stressing that the reality that is being proposed is probably not attractive for young people.

He motivated the capitularies saying, “We must express our being and our mission with new elements and with greater authenticity.”

Br Juan Carlos, in his keynote address, motivated the Brothers emphasizing the vital need to “be movement.”

One of the most difficult paths to accomplish in our lives is going from what I am used to doing and how I’m used to doing to something new, because it makes us move from the commodity of what is familiar to the insecurity of what we do not control,” he said. “However it is in that way that life judges us, it is in that path where life emerges.”

The province’s priorities for the next three years were defined, with the assistance of Br Ernesto Sánchez, based on the reflections sent to the capitularies for the Provincial Assembly held in December and the capitulars' reflections. The main places of action were defined as follows: Brothers and communities, care for people, mission and Marist vocational ministry.
