Gratitude to those many Marist educators

The Marist schools of ‘The Emerald Isle’ celebrated Marist week from 10-14 October this year.  It was a moment to reflect on the presence of the Marist in this country, the province of Europe Central West as well as in the wider international context.

During this week, Br Tony Leon, from the Secretariat of Brothers Today, visited each of the three schools and shared stories of the many ways which Marists are present in our world today.

Each school found creative expressions to highlight Marist Week in the first month of their academic year. Some had reunions of former students with a luncheon at the school, whilst others promoted young leadership with student leaders coordinating games and activities in the afternoon for the junior students.  All the schools celebrated with a school mass in the presence of the brothers of their respective community.

Special thanks to the leadership of Mrs Aisling Demaison, the province director of Marist Education and Br PJ McGowan who organised this national project.  The gratitude of the fruits of this week, extends to those many Marist educators at the grass roots of each school community. These Marists men and women took on extra roles to make this week a special experience for their students.  Especially:

  • Marian College: Paul Meany, Oonagh McCaul, Paul Harding & Graham Lawless, Lorraine Lee, Maria Kenny, Arlene Murphy, Grainne McCarthy.
  • Moyle Park College: Niamh Cahalane, Tracy Doyle, Bernie Doonan, Leigh Ellis, Rowena Lacy, Shay Quinn, Meghan Cunningham, Aine Sreenan
  • Marist College Athlone: Tony Colgan , Mick Dermody, Orla McGrath Martha McTernan, Rita Lawless, Mary Cryan

The Marists of Ireland will continue to celebrate their common charism during the Bicentennial year with a joint Bicentenary celebration amongst the three schools in Maynooth on 11 March. There will also be Formation programs at The Hermitage for Marist educators in the same month and a program for all the school student leaders in April.

May the road to the New Beginning continue to rise up to meet the Marist men, women, students, parents and brothers of Ireland.
