Letters of Marcellin – 253

Marcellin Champagnat

1839-05-12

According to Bro. Avit (Annales de Bougé-Chambalud, AFM 214.14, p. 5), Fr. Revol had traveled to the Hermitage to ask for two brothers and to discuss terms with our superiors. Some time later, having received nothing further from the Hermitage, he renewed contact by letter. He probably said that construction of a building for the brothers was well under way, that it would be habitable within a relatively short time, and that consequently, he must not be disappointed. The Founder is here answering that letter.

Father,

We have not forgot your request. It is entered in our register as Nº 7. We are pleased to see that your construction is moving along, and we certainly want to foster your zeal. Nevertheless it would be impossible for us to take care of you next All Saints because of the promises we have already made and the small number of brothers available at present.

It would be very advantageous for the classes to start out in the new house and that the latter have all the time it needs to dry out before being occupied.

Accept the respect with which I have the honor to be….
