Letters of Marcellin – 261

Marcellin Champagnat

1839-07-24

It is not unthinkable that Fr. Champagnat might have intended to set up in Vernaison or Charly the same sort of operation he was planning in Villevert, for Curis and Albigny (LL. 301 and 302), as this letter seems to indicate. In any case, Vernaison and Charly will not have brothers before 1874 and 1878 respectively.

Father,

It would not be possible for us to give you brothers this year because the establishments we can make have already been promised, but your request has been taken under consideration in a special way, and we will be very happy to send our brothers to carry out their function in your parish together with that of Charly, as soon as we are able to do so.

Accept our gratitude for the confidence with which you so kindly honor us, and the sincere attachment with which we have the honor to be, with respect, etc….
