Marist International Center community in Nairobi

Marist International Center community in Nairobi, Kenya had a busy week from the 15th to the 19th of December 2014. During this week, young Brothers attended a one week workshop in different fields depending on their levels of study. The second year Brothers had a chance to learn more about Child Rights and Advocacy, thanks to a workshop offered by FMSI. These topics that were well presented by: Evaristus Kasambwe and  Manel Mendoza, both working in Geneva, Switzerland for the Foundation; Brothers Maurice Juvence and Geraldo Medid, who are formators of MIC Community; and Fortune Chakasara, who came all the way from Zimbabwe. The workshop had seventeen participants: thirteen of them were Marist Brothers and four were religious sisters who live around MIC Community.

Through this workshop the partecipants came to know more about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the UN bodies and mechanisms such as the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), FMSI’s role in advocacy, the African Charter and child protection.

The partecipants were grateful for the workshop that helped set the fire in them to be advocates of child rights. The seeds that were sown will surely produce fruit in due season.
