Province of East Central Africa

24th June 2017 was Kenya's turn in the Province of East Central Africa to mark the provincial celebrations of the 200 years of the Marist Brothers in the world. Previous celebrations in this Province took place earlier in Democratic Republic of Congo (Bobandana) and Rwanda (Save).

During a colourful Eucharistic celebration, presided by His Exc. Phillip Anyolo, Bishop of Homa Bay – Kenya, our Brother Patrick G. Mwengai pronounced his final vows in the Congregation of the Marist Brothers. He was accompanied by many of his relatives and the entire population of “Our Lady of Orore, Primary School”, where he is currently developing his apostolic activities.

Within the same celebration, the first Marist Brother of Kenya, Brother John M. Onyona gave thanks to God for his 25 years of religious life in this Congregation.

Brother Théoneste Kalisa, provincial of Africa Centre-East, delegate of Br Emili Turú, received the vows of Br Patrick and at the end of the ceremony expressed good words on the occasion of the Bicentennial anniversary of the Congregation, and to each one of the two brothers who were the centre of attention in the celebration.

The occasion brought together Marist Brothers representing each one of the countries of PACE (DRC, Central Africa Rep., Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya), plus many other brothers from the MIC. A total of 30 brothers gathered at the end of the Eucharistic celebration to renew their Consecration to Mary, asking to get the necessary graces to continue being faithful servants of the Lord.

The alumni association of this school, as well as the relatives of our two brothers presented them different gifts as means of encouraging in their work, and as a recognition of what they are doing as apostles of the youth.
