Province of L?Hermitage

The Monastery of Les Avellanes is a lively religious house thanks to the two communities of Marist Brothers living there. These are the communities of Santa María de Bellpuig and the House of Spirituality.

The community of Santa María de Bellpuig has been since its beginnings, in 1910, the reference community of the Monastery of Les Avellanes. It is a community composed of both active and retired Brothers. It is responsible for the tasks of maintaining the house and property of the monastery, fields, woods, carpentry and ironwork, farms and general maintenance of the surroundings. It was also a reference point, up to 1994, for the other sections of the monastery, juniorate, novitiate and scholasticate. The community is currently made up of 13 Brothers who continue working on the maintenance of the gardens, the grounds and the vineyard, as well as in the infirmary. The infirmary of the Monastery of las Avellanas is a place with a long history, present in Les Avellanes since the arrival of the Marists.

The community of the House of Spirituality born in 2003, within the framework of the new open doors project, initiated in 2000. It has the mission of hospitality and accompaniment. The Brothers place their time and spaces at the disposal of the persons who come to stay in the community. They offer visitors the possibility of living with the community and taking part, voluntarily, in its prayer life. For those who so desire, they also offer proposals of activities, materials for prayer, reflection and reading, and suggestions for walks and hikes in the area around the monastery.
