Study and analysis of New Models for Africa

The African Mission Commission, which gathered in Nairobi from Nov. 8 – 12 with the hope of addressing the most important issues affecting the region, has drawn up a strategic plan for the next six years.

Participants included Br Mario Meutti (FMSI), Br João Carlos do Prado, Br Carlos Alberto Rojas, Br Mark Omede (Secretariat of Mission) andLuca Olivari, the consultant and facilitator of the New Models of Animation, Governance and Management Project.

They discussed the following issues.

  • An in-depth study and analysis of New Models of Animation and Governance project for its adaptation and implementation in the African region
  • Prioritisation of needs in the region for the New Models initiative to be presented in the extended council session in December 2016
  • Evaluation of the workshops on New Horizons and planning the second phase
  • A review of the Commission’s six years strategic plan
  • A plan for the implementation of the outcome of MIMA II in the African region

There were also moments of personal reflection to try to identify the Institute’s calls, such as internationality, rights of children and youth, Marist youth ministry, the relationship between brothers and laity, accountability and sustainability, and leadership formation in the light of the New Models Project.

The atmosphere was described as “open and with a spirit of fraternity.” Luca facilitated the meeting’s sessions on the New Models Project.

The Conference of Superiors of Africa and Madagascar entrusted the African Mission Commission the responsibility of animating and leading the process of implementation of the New Models of Animation and Governance project in the continent.

The members of the Commission are Brothers John Kusi Mensah, Ifeanyi Mbaegbu, Michel Maminiaina Razafimandimby, Erick Silali and Francis Fortune Chakasara.
