Superior General (1967 – 1985)
Brother Basilio was born at Acatlan de Juarez, Mexico on 16 October 1924. Basilio entered into the final Easter by returning to the Father on 21 January 1996. He was Superior General from 1967 till 1985. Basilio enriched us with his person, with his thought, with the great affection he bestowed on each brother. All that, he still gives to everyone of us today.
Brother Basilio Rueda Guzmán’s life was a praise to the Lord, a hymn to the work of His hands. His union with God broke the molds of the overwhelming activism which invades us and it propelled him towards the service of people, in spite of dominating egoism. His spiritual life was a road of progressive giving to God and to his Brothers in the years which followed Vatican II and which were to prepare the faithful to take part in the renewal of the Church and religious life.
His life took the road to holiness, as Marcellin Champagnat used to say: “To become a Brother is to undertake to become a saint!” Brother Basilio took this ideal very seriously and struggled all his life to make it a reality.
