Time of Death:
Maurie was admitted to hospital in late April with advanced heart failure and fluid retention.  Despite an intensive treatment regimen the heart failure meant that he was retaining as much fluid as he was shedding.  Then last week ago it was decided that he was in need of palliative care and this kept him pain free.  On Saturday May 18, the Brothers from Santa Teresa and Alice Springs were with him throughout day.  Maurie died peacefully at around 9pm.
At the time of his death, Maurie was 78 years of age and in the 59thth year of his religious life.

Family Details:
Date of Birth: November 2, 1935.
Place of Birth:  Kew, Victoria.

Schooling and Initial Formation:

• Postulancy: December 29, 1952 – July 1, 1953.
• Novitiate: July 2, 1953 – July 1, 1954.

Vows:

• First Vows:  July 2, 1954: At Mittagong.
• Perpetual Vows:  January 11, 1960: At Mt Gambier.
• Stability: December 1972: At Adelaide.

Ongoing Education and Formation:
Following his profession, Maurie attended the scholasticate in Dundas to complete his Teacher Registration Certificate.  Then in later years, on a part-time basis, he completed a B. Theol and a Diploma in Catechetics.  As his school ministry came to a conclusion in the 1990’s he prepared for the next phase of his ministry with a Diploma in Social Work.

Community and Ministry Appointments:
Maurice taught in ten difference schools across the Melbourne Province specialising in the technical subjects and music.  He enjoyed concerts and sport and his enthusiasm, sense of humour and keen interest in his students and their circumstances was apparent to all.  By his own words, his passion has always been for the battlers and in these more recent years the aboriginal apostolate has been close to his heart.  This was carried out at the Gap Outreach Centre and our School in Alice Springs.  Maurie is now at rest.  May he rest in peace.
