Brother Kevin A. Moran, FMS

July 26, 1930 – February 25, 2023

Brother Kevin Moran, FMS died on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at De La Salle Hall in Lincroft, New Jersey.  He was 92 years old and in his 70th year of Marist religious life.

Brother Kevin was born on July 26, 1930 in Martins Ferry, Ohio.  He was the son of the late William A. and Margaret Riordan Moran.  He attended St. Mary’s School in Martins Ferry and graduated from  Central Catholic High School in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1948.  He enrolled at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington where he completed a BA degree in 1952.  Upon graduation from Gonzaga, he entered the Marist Brothers at St. Joseph’s Novitiate in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts.  He received the habit on July 26, 1953 and pronounced first vows in 1954.

Brother Kevin was assigned to Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx as a teacher (1955-1961).  During this time he pronounced final vows at Marist College in 1959.  He taught at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, NY (1961-1966) and completed an MA degree from Fordham University in 1963.  He returned to Mount St Michael as Principal (1966-1972) and in 1973 participated in the Center Champagnat renewal program at the Marist Brothers General House in Rome.  Upon his return, he became Assistant Principal and then Principal at Marist High School in Chicago (1973-1978) and went on to serve as Assistant Principal at Mount St. Michael (1978-1982).  In 1982 he returned to Marist, Chicago where he served in various capacities (teacher, dean of discipline, assistant librarian, bookstore manager) until his retirement in 2011.  After retiring from the school, he worked with developmentally challenged young people in the SPRED program at the local parish.  In 2013 he joined the Marist Brothers community in Wheeling, WV and moved to Champagnat Hall in the Bronx in 2018.

Brother Kevin spent six months as an observer at the Abbey of the Genesee, and also participated in the Third Age Marist renewal program in Manziana, Italy.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by seven siblings:  Mary Ellen Symansic, Rev. Denis Moran, OFM, William, John and Edward Moran, Margaret Easton and Eileen Schaefer.  He is survived by nieces and nephews and his Marist Brothers.
