The Marist Evangelization Advisory Board met in Esopus, NY on April 20th to continue to advance the province plan for Marist Evangelization.  The group reviewed strides made in the four target areas identified during the summer meeting:  spiritual programs and workshops, formal association, local faith sharing groups and online resources.  The board was joined by younger faculty members Tim Hagan, Fernando Portilla, Mike Power and Adam Wouk who shared their dreams for the future of Marist life in the United States.  The conversation helped the board to set goals for the 2013-2014 academic year.  These goals include increased use of the microsite, the creation of a Sharing Our Mission for alumni and development directors, the scheduling of a Sharing Our Call for those not working in a school, ongoing formation for newly hired staff and the development of the Marks of a Lay Marist.

The board is made up of Jeanne Burns, Vinny Caramele, Matt Fallon, Lindsay Irwin, Richard Karsten, Valerie Savino and Brs. Owen Ormsby  and Dan ORiordan. The next meeting of the advisory board will be  on August 17th.

The spring semester was a busy one for the Marist Young Adult community.  The program continued to offer service, spiritual and social events to help those 18 to 30 years of age grow as Marist Christians.  Activities took place both online and in real time and ranged from monthly days of reflection and service opportunities to an online Lenten retreat and online chats.  Events to welcome recent high school graduates are planned for the summer.

The Marist Young Adult Program continues to publish a monthly newsletter, and provides social networking through facebook, LinkedIn, and twitter, and maintains a website and mobile app.

Over 100 young people from Roselle Catholic High School, Marist High School – Bayonne, St. Joseph Regional High School, St. Marys High School, Archbishop Molloy High School, Bishop Donahue High School and Mount St. Michael Academy gathered in Esopus for the February and March Encounters. The participants built community, learned more about their Marist family and deepened their relationship with Christ through witness talks, small group discussions, group games, and communal and shared prayer.  As a follow-up to the retreats, the encounterites engaged in local prayer gatherings and a regional Taize prayer.  Facebook groups were created to keep the groups connected and to offer mutual support.
