2006-12-22 GENERAL HOUSE

Commitment for justice

On the 18th and the 19th December, the traditional annual meeting between SED and the Marist Bureau of International Solidarity, BIS, was held in the general House in Rome. These meetings, which alternate between Madrid and Rome, give the two NGOs the opportunity to exchange information on their work and to explore ways of mutual collaboration. On this occasion, the director of SED, Antonio Tejedor and two people from the Department of Programmes and projects, Sonia Franco and Pablo Villalba, were present in Rome.

In the meeting, information was shared on the projects of each entity and the actions developed in common. In the same way, those present worked on the Mission Ad Gentes project that will help our Marist Institute to extend our presence in the East of Europe and in Asia and they explored possibilities of participation in these initiatives. They also studied different proposals, such as the realisation of a joint SED-BIS Work-Mission Campaign in Africa for the summer of 2007, or the possible visit to Geneva where the Marist Brothers are involved in an office of the Defence of the Rights of the Child.

Let us hope that this meeting will be extremely productive and will allow us to help to tighten the links between our two organisations, which are working for a common objective: the fight against poverty in education and commitment for justice.
