Marists, passionate about the mission!

On Saturday, February 28, Our Savior Marist School in Manatí (Colegio Marista El Salvador) opened its doors to welcome a very large group of educators, counselors and administrative staff from our two Marist schools of Puerto Rico.

After the icebreaking group dynamics and the offering prayer at the sports hall, we started discussing the topics of the Montagne Year. A short lecture outlining the characteristics of children and young people today was the framework for the reflection on Marcellin Champagnat’s ‘Montagne experience’ that followed. At some point of our life, we all have felt helpless and powerless in the face of injustice and suffering. Marcellin responded in a very concrete way. What is my answer?

In the afternoon, we went on reflecting on the encounter between Marcellin and young Montagne. The ‘dream’ we are part of today, and for which we try to give our lives daily, emerged from this encounter. Then we met in small groups and carefully listened to a number of real-life stories of children and young people from our countries.

After getting the homework assignment of studying the message of the II Marist International Mission Assembly held last year in Nairobi, we headed to the school chapel for the celebration of the Eucharist.

The Lord, through his Word, Bread and Wine, sent us back to our families and works to keep incarnating the answer that Marcellin Champagnat set in motion almost 200 years ago.
