Province of Brazil Central-South

On December 21, 2009, in Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, at the close of the province retreat, Brother Antonio Luiz da Costa made his perpetual profession, in the Province of Brazil Central-South.

Antonio was born in Uberaba, MG, on January 30, 1935. He was a student at the Marist school in Uberaba from 1947 to 1952. He entered Marist life, making his postulancy and novitiate in Mendes, RJ, in 1953 and 1954. Then he studied in the scholasticate in Curitiba. His first apostolic community was Mendes, until 1964.

He was not able to continue in vowed Marist life. He returned to Uberaba, his native town, and studied dentistry. On receiving his degree, he practiced the profession in São Paulo. Later, he was administrator of his parents? estate. Nevertheless, the ideal of the religious life never left him. He experienced the monastic life, with the Benedictines, for a number of years. Coming into contact again with the Marists, his first ideal was revived. His parents having died, he requested to be readmitted to the Brothers. After being accompanied for some years, he made temporary profession and, at the end of 2009, took perpetual vows. He uses his skills as an administrator, and in liturgies, catechesis and community activities.

Brother Antonio thanks God for the opportunity of making a definitive consecration, following the example of Mary and of St. Marcellin. The Province and the Institute congratulate him for his choice and commend him to the protection of the Good Lord, Jesus of the Redemption, a favorite devotion of his.
