Leo Shea

Brother Leo Shea passed away from complications of Parkinson’s disease.  He was 85 years old.

We remember Leo as the former Provincial of the Esopus Province as well as a member of the first group of Marist Brothers who established our Marist presence in Liberia (1986).  In more recent years, Leo served as the founding chief administrator and fund raiser for the Guadalupe Regional Middle School in Brownsville, Texas (an area on the border with Matamoros, Mexico). The school is a joint project with the Edmund Rice (Irish) Christian Brothers and the Sisters of the Incarnate Word.  Guadalupe was the first tuition-free school for poor children in the Lower Valley.
