Brother Godfrey Nwokem is laid to rest in Uturu

Late Br. Godfrey Nwokem, fms, was born on 15th November, 1936. On 30th December, 1953, He left his home at the age of seventeen to join the Brothers of St. Peter Claver, an indigenous congregation, for his Postulancy and Novitiate. With the absorption of the Brothers of St. Peter Claver by the Marist Brothers of the Schools in 1956, he became one of the first Nigerian Marist Novices in January 1957. On 9th January, 1958, he made his First Vows and on 9th January, 1963, he pronounced his Final vows.

Godfrey Nwokem - RIP May 2020

Br. Godfrey Nwokem was an Associate professor of English. He worked and taught in many non-Marist and Marist institutions. He was a lecturer at Marist Polytechnic, Enugu, his last place of apostolate until his death.

He died on 1st May, 2020 after his prolonged and painful suffering from kidney failure. He was aged 84. He was known for his apostolic zeal, and for his regularity and punctuality to community exercises. He had a strong devotion to Mary Our Good Mother. He spent over sixty years of his life as a Marist Brother. He was buried on 17th July, 2020 at the Marist Brothers’ cemetery (Holy Souls Community), Uturu in Abia State.

May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
