Father Amerigo Bids Goodbye to the Noviciate Community

MoçambiqueToday the 13th July will be a signifcant day for us all at the Noviciate. Among the so many reasons that make us feel that way, is the transfer of our first Champlain, Fr. Amerigo of the Marian Hill Fathers. The Master of Novices described him as a man full of humility and simplicity. He also praised his short homilies which were pregnant with rich insights which had a great touch to the reality of our life. He Had been attentive to all language groups. Brother Angel Mansoa who had known him from the beginning, had high opinion of him and stressed that he helped the community to settle gradually within the Mozambican cultural environment.

The pioneer novices, currently Brothers would concur with us that punctuality for him was something not forced but natural. You would never see him wearing a frowning face which demonstrated to us all that he was happy in his vocation. Chaplains who can speak alternatively English and Portuguese are rare in this part of Africa, and even to get another one of a similar nature will be a dream that will never come true. He had a big heart for us and he loved us as Champagnat did to the first Brothers. It is our prayer and sincere wishes that the Christ he proclaimed while here with us in such a humble and simple manner will continue to manifest among the people of Namacha and produce fruits that will be enjoyed by all. As the saying goes, We meet to part, and we part to meet again we hope there will be occasions that will be allowing us to meet in the near future, God willing. He has assured us of his availability and that whenever, we call on him he will be more than willing to come to our assistance. Bon Voyage Padre Amerigo and may the blessings of Our Good Lord who has called you to the priestly ministry continue to be your intimate companion and may you more and more be wrapped under the tender protection of our Good Mother Mary. Whenever you come down this way, you will always find our doors wide open and our warm hearts ready to receive amidst jubilations and sincere admirations.
