First profession of the Sisters of Calvary and the novices in Matola

hspace=5Sisters of our Lord of Calvary today invited us to witness the colourful ceremony of the first profession of their two sisters. Our novices took a lion?s share in the animation of the liturgy. You see the choir conductor, novices Sapalo in our full regalia leading the assembly in the songs of praise.

The church was half full and the diverse religious groups both men and women were in attendance. The choir was made up of candidates of our various congregation but we took a lion?s share. In the audience we also saw parents, siblings, friends and representatives from different Basic Christian communities. The main chapter was from St. John where he talks of the Good Shepherd. The priest urged us to be genuine Good Shepherds who do not run away when the tough goes tougher. From our experience, this congregation is growing slowly but steadily here in Mozambique.

Then came the moment of vows and veil dressing. In no time we saw them transformed into sisters amidst joy punctuated by embracings and ululations.

After the ceremony the whole crowd at the Marist Noviciate for meals and entertainments. As the whole accumulated heat from the sun, the quadrangle became the alternative dining venue with the well grown umbrella trees. We found ourselves into social groups. Things went on until the cake cutting moment which saw again assembled in the hall. There entertainments and speeches spiced the caking eating. After a final blessing, people started leaving for their various places. It was a solidarity moment for us and we feel happy that we were visited. As they say, ? Visitors bring blessings?, l think we had a good share of them today.

We felt one with our sisters and we pray for them and also ask them to pray for us.

Simeon Banda, fms, Matola.
