Dear Fellow Marists,
Autumn has officially begun, and soon the visible changes of the season will come. This year my coursework has given me a new appreciation of nature. If we observe nature, we can observe a magnificent example of a system with components full of purpose – a lot like life and the Church.
Fallen leaves are a "nuisance" to many. They are easily overlooked, unless you're picking them up! Do we ever take a moment to think that the beautiful leaves we see are dead? That took a dark turn, sorry! In all seriousness, however, these leaves still have a purpose! They can become great fertilizer, or be composted. We are also a part of nature. We regularly separate ourselves from it, but we need nature to survive! Why not think of ourselves as part of the "life community" instead of dominators of Earth?
What about young people? We can be overlooked as "inexperienced" or not "mature enough". Is that the truth? NO! Young people are essential to the Church today! In service and spreading the Gospel through our actions, we play a part in the work of the Church. 1 Timothy 4:12 reads "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." We are one part of the Body of Christ, with many pieces… all important.
Continually remember your purpose, and never stop discovering aspects of your call! You are important!
God bless you all, and keep living Marist!
