Prayers for the World Day of Consecrated Life

In 1997, Pope John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life. This celebration is normally attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd.

This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day; the day on which candles are blessed symbolising Christ who is the light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect light of Jesus Christ to all peoples.

Today the Universal Church unites in prayer for all men and women in consecrated life and asks the Lord of the harvest to inspire and call our present generation of young Catholics to follow
Jesus in the consecrated life.

A series of Intercessions are attached below that maybe used during Eucharist or Community prayer today or sometime during this week.

  1. We pray for those who are consecrated to God by the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. May they always reveal the love of Christ to those they encounter and continue to enrich our world by their dedicated lives of prayer. We pray to the Lord…
  2. That the life and mission of the men and women in consecrated life be a means of sanctification for them and building up the kingdom of God. We pray to the Lord…
For those who have responded to the prompting of the Holy Spirit to be a consecrated person that they may experience the support of the Church as they continue their growth in holiness. We pray to the Lord…
  3. We pray for all those who are discerning their vocation in life, particularly our Marist novices, James and Jack, and those whom the Lord is calling to consecrated life. May they be given the wisdom to hear God's call and the courage to respond generously. We pray to the Lord…
