2009-11-16 GENERAL HOUSE

Changes and replacements

With the conclusion of the 21st General Chapter, the General House has gone through a period of departures and arrivals. Informal community celebrations have marked an affectionate end to often lengthy terms of shared community life. Five weeks after the closing of the Chapter, an atmosphere of ?ordinary time? has at last established itself. We present here the final balance of transfers.

On Tuesday 27 October, Brother Sean Sammon departed for the United States after staying some time in Rome to settle unfinished business. He will be living in the community of Pelham, near New York. Brother Luis García Sobrado has been appointed in charge of the Sector Missio ad gentes, with his residence in Bangkok, where he will move after a brief visit to his family. Brothers Pedro Herreros, Théoneste Kalisa, Peter Rodney and Maurice Berquet have returned to their Provinces where they will wait to be assigned new fields of mission.

Two Brothers who have concluded their period of service to the General Administration have returned home, Michael Flanigan (Missio ad gentes), to the USA, and Pedro Ost (Evangelical use of goods), who, after an eventful return flight, has reintegrated himself into his home Province of Rio Grande do Sul. For the moment, these Brothers have not been replaced in the work they were doing. Brother Teodoro Grageda, Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Chapter, returns shortly to his mission in Africa, now that the finishing touches to the work of the Chapter is completed.

Brother Dominick Pujia (BIS), of the USA Province has been replaced by Richard Carey of the same Province, Guy Palandre (Accounts), of the Province of the Hermitage, has been replaced by Roy Deita, coming from the Philippines, and Don Neary (private secretary to Brother Sean Sammon), has returned to his Province of the USA. Brother José María Ferre, from the Province of Mediterránea, has become private secretary to Brother Emili Turú. He will have two offices to fill, having already been appointed Postulator General.

The Community of the General House consists, for the time being, of the following brothers: Onorino Rota, Superior of the Community, who finishes his mandate at Christmas (to be replaced by Pietro Bettin, of the Mediterránea Province), George Fontana, Rick Carey, (USA.), Pau Fornells, Juan Carlos Villarreal, (Norandina), Josep Roura, Juan Moral, Antonio Martínez Estaún, Antoni Salat (Hermitage), Edward Clisby (New Zealand), Aloisio Kuhn (Brasil Centro-Sul), Juan Miguel Anaya, José María Ferre, (Mediterránea), Giovanni Bigotto (Madagascar), Daniel Martín de Paz (América Central), Agustín Acevedo, Javier Ocaranza (México Occidental), Marcelo De Brito (Cruz del Sur), Vincent Abadom (Nigeria), Jude Pieterse (Sector Mission ad gentes) and Teófilo Minga (Compostela).

The General Council Community will be formed by Brothers Emili Turú, Superior General (L?Hermitage), Joseph McKee, Vicar General (West Central Europe), General Councillors John Klein (USA.), Ernesto Sánchez (México Occidental), Eugène Kabanguka (Central East Africa), Antonio Ramalho (Brasil Centro-Norte), Michael de Waas (South Asia), Josep Maria Soteras (L?Hermitage), Victor Preciado (Mexico Occidental), who is also Econome General, and the Secretary General Jean Ronzon (L?Hermitage), who is coming to the end of his mandate.
