Young Adult Program – March 2014

March 2015

FROM THE MYA ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Dear Fellow Marists,

Luis I hope that you are enjoying a blessed and reflective Holy Week. This time of the Church calendar is always very interesting to me, and it is also very unique. There is a heightened sense of waiting, of urgency, and an awareness of Christ during this time.

I was very aware of the specialness of this week as I listened to the passion narrative at the Palm Sunday mass. During a period of communal, silent reflection I thought to myself "Holy Week and Easter REALLY are the basis of Christianity."  For a Christian, one defining characteristic of faith is a belief in the sacrificial death and glorious resurrection of our Lord and God!

While I knew this before, it came to me in a new way at that moment. What is our faith without the passion and resurrection? What is our faith without Jesus Christ? At the start of this school year, I entered an RCIA program at my college. Already a Christian, this process helped me to renew my knowledge of the faith and deepen my understanding of the Catholic tradition. This Holy Week, and for the rest of the year, let us make it a point to rediscover our faith in a variety of ways!

With warm spring days upon us, nature will reveal new life. On Easter Sunday, Christ will call us to new life through His resurrection. In an effort to rediscover our faith, and bring new life to it, let us research and reflect upon something that we question or something that catches our interest such as the Bible (or a portion of it), the meaning of the Eucharist, or a review of prayer styles. Or maybe… simply try something new!

Best wishes for a blessed and Happy Easter!  God bless you all, and keep living Marist!
